Notes and comments:
Taper Notes "AIC was the headliner of this most incredible triplebill that also featured Screaming Trees, and Gruntruck. Wow. I think you'll find this is one of the best AIC audience recordings out there, and it pretty much hasn't seen the light of day except for a few cassette copies made for friends back in the day. I love all the music but think this period was when they were really hitting on all cylinders in a live setting. "Dirt" shows just seemed to have an attitude. One thing that struck me about this show was the informal, mingling attitude of the artists. While Screaming Trees played, Layne stood to my left and watched most of their set. Oddly enough, both Conner brothers stood right behind me during the AIC set. Guess I had the "sweet spot" that night. There's some very funny (in the moment) / tragic (in hindsight) banter during this show about drugs and addiction. Layne mentions a couple of times while introducing songs that they aren't autobiographical. Of course, we all know they were. One particularly priceless exchange that still makes me laugh to this day - Layne:"Hey, uh, Jerry fucked his hands up so if any of you have painkillers, you do?, OK, I know you, you come see me, and, uh, if any, and I didn't fuck up anything but ... I'd like some too."
